Aron Canet set to undergo surgery, targeting a comeback in Le Mans

Fantic Racing’s Aron Canet will miss the remainder of the Spanish GP due to a peroneal malleolus fracture and is set to undergo surgery in Barcelona on Saturday.

Unfortunately, Aron Canet suffered a heavy crash at turn 8 of the Circuito de Jerez during Practice 1 on Friday afternoon, resulting in a left peroneal malleolus fracture. The 24-year-old Spaniard, winner of the Portuguese GP and currently sitting in 4th in the Moto2 riders’ standings, was declared unfit for the Spanish GP.

Canet travelled to Barcelona on Friday evening where he is set to undergo surgery at the Hospital Universitari Dexeus on Saturday. Fantic Racing will be on track with Xavier Cardelus for the remainder of the weekend.

Roberto Locatelli, Fantic Racing Moto2 Team Manager:

“This is an unfortunate setback after an amazing start to the world championship campaign for Aron. We are all thinking of him as he is on his way to Barcelona where he will have surgery on Saturday. We can’t wait to have him with us again. Of course, we have to wait and see how the recovery evolves but we are hopeful that he will be back for Le Mans in two weeks’ time.”
