Fantic Racing MX wins Internazionali d'Italia again

After a frantic race1 conditioned by a carom at the first corner, Elias Escandell manages to win the title riding the Fantic XX 125.

Arco (TN), February 19, 2023

The Internazionali d'Italia cup in the 125 class is still in the hands of Fantic and team manager Marco Maddii for the third consecutive year. The Veneto-based manufacturer reaffirms the title won the year by Cas Valk and in 2021 with Hakon Osterhagen. This year, Elias Escandell took the top step of the podium. It was not a quiet Sunday, as everything seemed compromised after race 1, but Elias showed cool heads despite his young age. An excellent debut for him riding the Fantic XX 125 and with the team managed by Marco Maddii, who confirms himself as a discoverer of talents.

You know, in motocross, starting in front, and staying there, means taking home a big chunk of the race. But it doesn't always work out that way, and today was one of those times.

In fact, in race 1, Maximilian Werner, who started alongside Elias Escandell, managed to take the first corner ahead of everyone. Done? Far from it, he was touched by an opponent triggering a chain crash involving teammate Escandell and Pulvirenti, both forced into a comeback race.

The Italian recovered position after position, with young Nicolò Mannini acting as a squire for the Fantic Racing MX team. Halfway through the race, No. 212 was able to pass Mannini, gradually pulling him away. Escandell continued to increase the pace, poisoned against misfortune but not enough to overtake the other riders among him, Pulvirenti. In the end, the Italian finished in 5th place while the Spaniard was in 9th (they gained one position in the standings due to Alessandro Gaspari's 30" penalty). At the same time, the race win went to Julius Mikula.

Race 2, on the other hand, was completely different but just as exciting as the last lap approached. At the start of this time, everything went smoothly, with Escandell immediately behind Nicola Salvini. Unleashed the Italian rider who led the race in the lead until the end. The No. 6 of the Fantic Racing MX team managed the race like the most experienced of motocross riders, defending himself incredibly from Doensen's attempts. Alfio Pulvirenti, on the other hand, struggled more staccato, unable to climb up from the ninth position. And so, closing in second place in race 2, third of the day, Elias Escandell managed to win the title of champion of the Internazionali d'Italia in the 125 class.

MX2 class results

In their second race outing on their bikes, they still need physical condition and confidence in the saddle for Tom Guyon Cas Valk and Alexi Fueri. In a starting grid stuffed with 4T engines, in race 1, Fueri started very well, taking the top positions. Lap after lap. However, he experienced some fatigue and, after a race always conducted in the top 10, he finished in the 13th position.

A race in the middle of the pack for Cas Valk and Tom Guyon: for the reigning European champion Dutchman in the EXM125, a 19th position reflecting the morning's feedback. For the Belgian, on the other hand, a 24th place in contrast to the 7th time obtained in qualifying.

Tom Guyon and Cas Valk turned in race 2: excellent start for the Belgian, who remained in the top positions for half the race, while the Dutchman lapped consistently close to the top 10.

More in trouble was Alexis Fueri, conditioned by a crash on the first lap that forced him to a recovery race. The three MX2 pilots eventually returned home in 11th, 15th, and 35th positions.

Marco Maddii, team manager team Fantic Racing MX: "The balance is undoubtedly positive. I am happy about Elias' victory, which confirms the two titles he won in 2022 and 2021. However, it was not an easy victory because Elias was coming from a knee injury. He last raced it in May last year.

I am also pleased with the guys in 250. Both Valk and Fueri showed potential to be competitive in EMX250. Guyon race after race has improved. Today without the rear brake mishap, he could have finished at the top 5."

Elias Escandell: "I am so happy! I won the Internazionali d'Italia 8 months after breaking my knee ligaments. A better debut could not have been. I held my own during and after race1 because I felt confident, and in the end, we won!"
