Another standout Sunday for the Fantic Racing Lino Sonego team: Barry Baltus claimed a brilliant second place at the Sachsenring, while Aron Canet brought home an impressive seventh, despite battling pain in his hand and shoulder.
Baltus showed composure and maturity beyond his years. Starting from the front row, he managed the race smartly, staying glued to the leader and ready to strike. With four laps to go and the attack in sight, a double crash and damage to the airfence forced Race Direction to red-flag the race. Game over – but the second place is worth gold: 20 crucial points for both the Riders' and Teams' Championships.
On the other side of the garage, Aron Canet once again proved to be a true warrior. After his crash on Saturday, he rode through intense pain, with an injured finger, a missing fingernail, and a sore shoulder. Despite it all, he fought with trademark grit and crossed the line in seventh place – a result that means more than the standings suggest.
Thanks to both riders’ efforts, Fantic Racing Lino Sonego strengthens its lead in the team standings, now holding a 13-point advantage.
The action resumes next week in Brno, where the team will also welcome wild card Mattia Pasini, ready to return to the track. The championship battle is heating up – and Fantic is in it, more determined than ever.
Aron Canet:
"It was a tough day – I felt a lot of pain in my finger and shoulder throughout the race. Still, we managed to finish and secure seventh place, which means important points for the championship. Now we focus on Brno, a track I really like, and I hope to be back in top shape there."
Barry Baltus:
"It was a really good weekend. Honestly, if someone had told me on Friday night that I’d be on the podium, I wouldn’t have believed it—we struggled a lot in the dry. I was hoping for a wet race, but we managed to fix the problems and had strong pace today. I was saving the rear tire and had a clear plan to attack on the last lap, but the red flag changed everything. I hope the riders involved are okay. Still, second place and 20 points are great, especially after the tough races at Mugello and Assen. We’re back on the podium, and we’ll try to go one better next week in Brno. Thanks to the team for the amazing job."
Roberto Locatelli, Team Manager:
"Great race by Barry Baltus, who fought for the win as long as it was possible. I don’t like to say ‘we would have won’, but the fact remains that the race was stopped right when Barry was about to make his move. Still, he delivered an excellent performance.
Very good race also from Aron Canet, who rode in extremely tough physical conditions, giving it everything despite the pain. After yesterday’s bad luck, today he gritted his teeth and brought home an important seventh place.
Now we look ahead to Brno with confidence: we want to keep fighting for the podium with both riders, just as we’ve done so far."
