Fantic and Aron Canet are Moto2 Vice World Champions

Fantic Racing Moto2 star Aron Canet, a three-time winner this season, has secured second place in a stellar 2024 World Championship with one round remaining.

With fantastic GP wins in Portugal, Indonesia, and Thailand, a total of seven podiums, and five pole positions, Aron Canet made a powerful impression in his first season with Fantic Racing, securing the runner-up position in the Moto2 riders’ standings at the penultimate round of the season.

At the Malaysian GP, Canet was sixth in the combined standings after the practice sessions, just 0.263 seconds off the top. A rodeo moment on his last flying lap in qualifying left him starting 13th on the grid. Confident in his strong pace, he managed the first half of the race from the midfield, breaking into the top 10 by lap 11 and ultimately finishing in a solid eighth place and showcasing once again how much he has matured this year.

Xavi Cardelus started from 26th on the grid and worked his way up close to a top-20 finish, crossing the line in 21st.

Sepang marked the final stop of the overseas tour in the 2025 MotoGP World Championship. Following recent devastating floods in the region, the Valencia GP has been cancelled, with a replacement for the season finale yet to be confirmed. Fantic Racing Moto2 extends its thoughts to everyone affected by the flooding in Aron's home town. It hasn't been an easy weekend for the 25-year-old but he still did an amazing job.

Aron Canet:

“I’m very happy to be the Vice World Champion in my first year with Fantic. We have worked hard this year and for that I must thank my whole Team. Here in Sepang the track conditions changed every corner and it wasn’t easy. In the race I preferred to manage the pace instead of risking a fall. This weekend has been very difficult for me, not on the bike but on a personal level. What happened in my city, Valencia, impressed me a lot. As much as I tried to distract myself, my thoughts were always with the families of the victims and the people who lost everything.”

Xavi Cardelus:

“It was a hard race, I struggled with the grip after a bad start. Now eyes on the last one in Barcelona.”

Roberto Locatelli, Fantic Racing Moto2 Team Manager:

“We are proud to have finished second in the World Championship with Aron Canet, in his first year with Fantic with one race to go. This is the result of the work done by the whole Team and the Company. We are particularly pleased with the growth that Aron has had with us and the feeling he has achieved with the bike. Sepang is perhaps his most difficult track of the Championship and he still got the necessary points for the Riders’ Standings. Xavi Cardelus did his race, it was an uphill weekend but we want to finish the season in a better way, probably at his home track in Barcelona.”
