A difficult weekend for Fantic Racing Moto2 in the Netherlands

At the TT Circuit Assen, Aron Canet’s race came to an early end because of a crash. Luckily, the Spaniard escaped any injury.

The Fantic Racing Team only lined up with Aron Canet, as Xavi Cardelus had to withdraw from the Dutch GP due to a crash in Practice 2 on Saturday. Already back in Spain, the Andorran rider will have to undergo surgery to fix the fractures of the second and third metatarsal in his right foot.

Starting from the fifth row, Canet showed an excellent pace and managed to work his way up to ninth position in the first five laps. On lap 6, while he was fighting for eighth position, the Fantic Racing rider fell when he was braking on the curb between turn 3 and turn 4 and was forced to retire.

Now it is important to leave the unfortunate GP behind because next weekend, MotoGP will be back on track for the German GP at the Sachsenring.

Aron Canet:

“A mistake at turn 3, due to the braking on the curb, led to the crash. It is a pity because we were strong today, we were recovering well lap after lap. With our pace we could have aimed for the podium, but unfortunately, we have to accept the result and improve to do a better race in Germany.”

Roberto Locatelli:

“It was a difficult race for us, definitely not what we had hoped for. We started in the back and had to stay calm and collected at the start and in the first few laps. A gust of wind between the turns 3 and 4 forced Canet to go a little wider and he ended up on the curb. When he braked, he lost the front. Now we look forward to the Sachsenring where we will try to do a reset. These first eight races of the season were nice on one hand and negative on the other hand. We need to bring the results home. Regarding Xavi Cardelus, his physical form will be evaluated from day to day and we hope he can join as in Germany.”
