Heroic Pole Position for Aron Canet at the French GP

Fantic Racing’s Aron Canet took an incredible Pole Position in Le Mans, showing a true fighter's heart and topping the Moto2 Qualifying only two weeks after surgery on his left foot.

For the third time this season and for the 15th time in his GP career, Aron Canet will launch from pole in Sunday’s race. His performance at the iconic Circuit Bugatti might be his most impressive to date though, considering his recent injury that forced the 24-year-old Spaniard to sit out his home GP in Jerez. Finishing in the top 10 on his return on track in Friday’s Practice 1 session, the winner of the Portuguese had to go through Q1 on Saturday but still managed to come out on top in the all-important Q2 in 1’35.037. He slipped out at the end of the session but that didn’t cause any issues for Aron who is committed to give it his all once again over the 22-lap race distance.

Xavi Cardelus will chase his first points of the season from the ninth row on the grid.

Aron Canet:

“I am really happy, we worked a lot this weekend, step by step. The most important thing was not to crash during the sessions because of my leg. We worked well in Q1, we improved and we pushed for the first time of the weekend in Q2 – and we achieved an amazing Pole. It’s good for tomorrow but it will be a really difficult race for everybody. For sure I will do my best!”

Xavi Cardelus:

"We did a step forward, I felt really good on the bike during the Qualifying. We want to achieve more but we are improving step by step and putting a good base for the next races. Now we are focused on doing a great race tomorrow."

Roberto Locatelli - Fantic Racing Team Manager:

“It is a positive surprise, I am used to think positive but the Pole Position was something unexpected. We knew Aron is super fast but, considering his physical condition, we were looking to be on the first two rows today. The Pole was a gift for all of us but it is also the result of all the hard work done by the whole Fantic Racing Team that has been fantastic. For Sunday, we want to get out the maximum but the most important thing is that he can race without problems.”
