Aron Canet and Fantic back on the Moto2 podium

Fantic Racing Moto2’s Aron Canet secured a strong second place at the British GP in Silverstone, narrowly missing out on the win on the final lap after an impressive race.

Aron Canet was on form all weekend, topping every practice session and securing second place in Saturday’s qualifying, just 0.052 seconds off the pole position. Taking advantage of his front row start, the Spaniard was third going into the first corner and brilliantly managed to take the lead during the opening lap. The Fantic Racing Moto2 rider set a pace that most of the field couldn’t match, with the exception of home hero Jake Dixon.

Lap after lap, the duo built up an impressive gap on the competitors, with Canet fending off Dixon’s initial attacks and holding onto the lead for 16 laps. A small mistake at turn 1 on the very last lap meant Canet had to relinquish first place, but he still brought home a strong runner-up result. This performance is a clear sign of the outstanding work done by the whole Fantic Racing Moto2 team and the competitiveness they are eager to display in the second half of the season.

On the other hand, it wasn’t an easy weekend for Xavi Cardelus, as he returned to action after suffering a foot injury in Assen. His not-yet-ideal physical condition prevented him from showcasing his true potential on a challenging circuit. His feeling was improving but, unfortunately, his race came to an early end due to a crash.

Aron Canet:

Honestly, I really wanted to win today, which is why I am not fully satisfied. A small mistake at the first corner of the final lap made me lose time. I pushed a lot in the beginning, then managed the pace, and decided to push again in the final two laps. It is a pity that we missed out on the win, but this performance is definitely a boost for the next race. We are already focused on Austria, where we want to prove once again that we are competitive.”

Xavi Cardelus:

The outcome is a pity, as my feeling on the bike was improving. I was catching up on my rivals and confident I would be able to fight with them. I am still happy that I found my rhythm again after two rather difficult days.”
