Front Row Start for Aron Canet in Silverstone

Fantic Racing Moto2’s Aron Canet secured a promising second place on the grid, just 0.052 seconds off pole position at the British GP.

Aron Canet came back swinging after the summer break, showing great pace and a good feeling with his bike right from the get-go. He topped the time sheets in both practice sessions on Friday, breaking the previous all-time lap record. Canet went on to further improve his lap time in Practice 2 on Saturday morning, securing his Q2 ticket in P1. He confirmed his strong form once again in qualifying, narrowly missing out on pole position by just 0.052 seconds. Starting from the front row tomorrow, he is determined to gain important points for the world championship standings.

Xavi Cardelus, returning from a foot injury that forced him to miss the German GP, is not yet at 100% physically and is struggling to find the right pace on a demanding track like Silverstone. However, his feeling is improving lap by lap, and he will fight from row 10 on the grid when the lights go out for the British Moto2 race on Sunday at 2:30 pm local time.

Aron Canet:

“I am really happy with my feeling on the bike and I topped all the practice sessions. In qualifying, I made a small mistake in the last corner that cost me pole position by a few thousandths of a second, but the important thing will be to have great pace for tomorrow’s race. We will give our all to fight for the victory here in Silverstone. I am fully focused on my rhythm and confident we can do well. I really like the circuit, it fits my riding style. We found the right set up, and tomorrow we will go for the podium.”

Xavi Cardelus:

“After quite some time off the bike and on a challenging track that is almost new to me, the feeling isn’t ideal, especially in some corners where there is little room for error. I have to balance trying to improve my lap time while also avoiding to crash. In qualifying, we managed to make some good adjustments, and the improvement was noticeable right away. I feel more comfortable on the bike now, without being on the edge in every corner.”
