Another important front row for Fantic and Canet

Fantic Racing Moto2's Aron Canet secured third place in qualifying at the Japanese GP and will start from the front row in Sunday's race.

The second day in Japan was more challenging than usual for the World Championship riders due to uncertain weather conditions. Aron Canet finished first in the Practice2 session thanks to a strong lap time set in the end. In the all-important Q2, the rain mixed up the cards, not allowing any rider to complete more than three laps. Canet was able to put a solid lap together that put him in third position, without taking too many risks and managing well the difficult track conditions. He will start ahead of both riders who currently precede him in the World Championship standings.

Xavi Cardelus showed some good progress during Practice2, finishing in P23. During the qualifying, the track conditions did not allow him to further improve. He will line up in 28th on the grid, with good chances to recover positions.

Aron Canet: "I’m happy with the result, the important thing was to start as far ahead as possible. I had a good feeling on the bike, better than yesterday. Without the rain I feel that I could have be on Pole but the important thing is to start well tomorrow. Let’s see how the track conditions will be in the race, I’ll give 100% as always."

Roberto Locatelli: "Canet worked really well with the team in conditions that where difficult for everyone, managing to qualify better than his direct competitors. Bravo to Aron who managed the bike well and secured an important front row. Cardelus was visibly improving lap after lap. Unfortunately, the final qualifying time does not really show his potential, due to uncertain weather conditions."
