At the Sachsenring both Fantic Racing Moto2 riders showed good speed but the race came to an early end for Aron Canet and Roberto Garcia.
The weekend started well for Aron Canet who has shown a good pace since Friday. On Saturday morning he set the fastest time in the Practice 2 session, securing direct access to Q2. In the all-important qualifying he wasn’t able to put in another strong lap. Starting from P14 on Sunday, Canet fought hard to recover positions but a technical issue compromised his race and forced him to retire. It was an unfortunate outcome for the Portuguese GP winner, who failed to score points despite his excellent performance over the course of the weekend. The upcoming three-week break will give him the opportunity to work and return at the top for the British GP at Silverstone.
Roberto Garcia, at his debut in the World Championship, proved to be at ease with the strongest riders in the world. The JuniorGP leader missed out on the Q2 by just 0.197 seconds. Starting from P24 on the grid, in the race he did not lack confidence and showed a good pace. Unfortunately, a fall on lap 12 put an early end to his GP but he will for sure have the opportunity to show off his talent on other occasions in the future.
Aron Canet:
"I am sorry that I was not able to put the performance shown in practice 2 into the qualifying and race. It was a disappointing end to the first part of the season. We went in a more conservative direction with the setup that probably doesn't give me the right confidence. The good thing is that now we have time to analyse everything and to work hard to come back stronger after the summer break. We will make a change and we will be competitive again, I have no doubts about that."
Roberto Garcia:
"First of all, I want to thank Fantic Racing for the opportunity they have given me. It has been an incredible experience where I have learned a lot and we have been taking many good steps.
It was a shame to fall in the race but we take away the positives, it was a very productive weekend with a really good feeling with everyone. Thanks to Fantic for this experience, we keep working."
Stefano Bedon, Fantic Racing Moto2 Project Manager:
"We were really strong in the early part of the season but we got a bit lost in this last week that was very bad in terms of results. The most important thing is that we know how to bounce back and recover the competitiveness that we have lost. Also, the upcoming summer break until August will be useful to recharge and to get as strong as we used to be. I am sure we will come back stronger for Silverstone."
