Front Row Start for Fantic Racing’s Aron Canet in Aragon

Aron Canet is on a run. The Fantic Racing Moto2 rider secured his third consecutive front-row start with a strong third-place finish in Saturday’s qualifying at MotorLand Aragon.

Building on his stunning podium in Silverstone and a close fourth-place finish in Spielberg, Aron Canet continued his impressive form at the Grand Prix of Aragon. The Fantic Racing star entered qualifying fifth in the combined standings after the practice sessions, without setting a lap time in a wet Practice 2 on Saturday morning. He picked up right where he left off during the crucial qualifying session, posting the third-best lap time. Canet narrowly missed out on second place by just 0.014 seconds and was only 0.148 seconds off pole position. All is set for another thrilling podium battle in Sunday’s 19-lap race.

It was an encouraging day for the entire Fantic Racing Moto2 squad, with Xavi Cardelus improving by four positions compared to his Practice 1 result on Friday, qualifying in 27th. Following a penalty for another rider, Cardelus will move up one spot on the grid to start from 26th, aiming to chase the point-scoring positions when the lights go out at 12:15 local time.

Aron Canet:

"It was a complicated qualifying round, I completed only two laps at high level because already in the second attempt with the same tyre I felt to have less feeling due to the conditions of the track. We are not on Pole but starting from the front row we have a great chance tomorrow. This morning the track was wet, then it dried up during the shifts but outside the trajectory was still slippery. Tomorrow will not be easy but we have a good rhythm and want to aim high."

Roberto Locatelli, Fantic Racing Moto2 Team Manager:

"It was a great qualifying, we fought for the pole until the end. We’re working well, now we just have to make a small correction on the front fork for tomorrow’s race and then 100% gas. We want to be at least on the podium and try to win. This is our seventh first row of the season, this shows that we are very consistent, now we have to do well in the race, as already done in England and Austria. Xavi Cardelus did a good first run with the qualifying tyre and this certifies his improvement, for him we will see what corrections can be made to allow him to be even more competitive."
