Aron Canet delivered an outstanding performance at the Misano World Circuit, securing the second step of the podium for Fantic Racing Moto2 at the Italian brand’s home round at the San Marino GP.
The San Marino GP is a special weekend for Fantic Racing Moto2 and Aron Canet wasted no time making an impact. He set the pace from Friday on and topped the time sheets after the practice sessions, even breaking the all-time lap record.
Canet just missed out on another front-row start but still secured a promising fourth place in Saturday’s qualifying. When the lights went out on Sunday, the Spaniard made a strong start in the top 5 and managed the race in the best possible way to take over the lead by lap 10. In a thrilling final five laps, the Fantic Racing Moto2 star clinched a well-deserved second place, his third podium of the season.
It was a more challenging weekend for Xavi Cardelus, but he managed to cross the finish line in 27th, gathering valuable data to help him make progress moving forward.
Aron Canet:
“We had a great weekend and felt confident that we could fight for the win. I had an amazing feeling, but we also knew the last 4-5 laps would be a bit of an unknown. I knew I could be fast here in Misano, but considering the fourth place in Austria, where I have struggled a bit in the past, it is clear we can be competitive anywhere. I had fun pushing hard throughout the race, and I want to thank my team for their excellent work. We already know what we can improve on for the next GP, which will be held here again. I was really determined to do well at Fantic’s home race.”
Roberto Locatelli, Fantic Racing Moto2 Team Manager:
“It was a positive Sunday, and we were able to capitalize on the strong performances we had shown since Friday. We were determined to do well in one of Fantic’s home rounds, and it was an incredible feeling to celebrate all together. We came from a race where the outcome didn’t reflect our potential, but we know we can always be contenders. For Cardelus, it was a weekend of hard work. He is a dedicated rider, and we can see his progress. At Misano 2, he will have the chance to race on the same track again, with more data at his disposal.”
