Mattia Pasini will not take part in the upcoming German Grand Prix at the Sachsenring – which was originally planned as his first wildcard appearance of the Moto2 season with Fantic Racing Lino Sonego. Instead, the multiple GP winner will join the team beginning with Brno.
During a training session at the Brno circuit earlier this week, Mattia Pasini suffered a crash that resulted in lower back pain. While the outcome could have been worse, his current physical condition will not allow him to race in Germany. However, the experienced Italian is already focused on recovery, aiming to be fit for the upcoming events.
Pasini will return to the track with the Fantic Racing Lino Sonego team soon, with wildcard entries confirmed for Brno (Czech Republic) and the Red Bull Ring (Austria).
The team and rider will evaluate the possibility of making up for the missed race with a third wildcard entry at another round later in the season.
Fantic Racing Lino Sonego wishes Mattia a speedy recovery and looks forward to seeing him back on track soon.
Mattia Pasini:
“I was really keen on these wildcard appearances with the Fantic team and had been working hard for months to be ready. I had organised the test in Brno specifically to prepare as best I could for these three races. Unfortunately, during testing, I suffered a heavy crash while trying out some technical solutions that hadn’t been fully dialled in yet.
I injured my lower back, and together with the team we decided it was best to skip the Sachsenring round. It was a big impact, and the priority now is to recover completely and be at 100% for Brno and Austria.
I still hope to make up for this missed wildcard race later in the season. We will discuss it with Roberto and Stefano to find the best solution. In the meantime, I will still be present during the German GP weekend, even if just behind the scenes. I will be working with Sky Italia and might share a few more details about what happened during the Brno test.
Roberto Locatelli – Fantic Racing Lino Sonego Team Manager:
“We are truly sorry that Mattia won’t be on the grid for the German GP, but in these situations, caution comes first. The most important is to recover fully and come back strong for Brno. We’ll be waiting for him and we’re sure we’ll have some fun together.”
Stefano Bedon – Fantic Racing Moto2 Project Leader:
“Mattia is no longer a youngster, and every crash takes more of a toll than it would on a 20-year-old. We are happy to have him with us, and missing a GP isn’t the end of the world. We’ll be ready to welcome him back at Brno.”
