Moto2 German GP, race: Vietti tenth at Sachsenring

Celestino Vietti finishes tenth after a combative race that had seen him reach the sixth position.

Chemnitz, June 18, 2023

The Sachsenring weekend in Germany ended with Celestino Vietti finishing tenth.

With a good start, Celestino was soon in sixth position, close to the leading group. From mid-race, however, tire degradation did not allow the number 13 of the Fantic Racing team to push further, and thanks to a few too many contacts in the scuffle, the Piedmontese rider lost a few positions in the final phase of the race, finishing tenth.

Borja Gomez could not compete in the German Grand Prix after being declared unfit following a crash in FP2 on Friday. The rider is well and will be present in Assen.

The German one was the second of three consecutive Grand Prix: the MotoGP will be back on track next Friday for the free practice of the Dutch GP in Assen.

Celestino Vietti: “I got a good start, and the pace was good. After some overtaking, I was sixth and thought I could fight for positions close to the podium. But, halfway through the race, the rear tire wore out and lost grip because of the previous overtakes. I tried to resist, but in traffic and due to some contact with other riders, I lost time and positions.
I am sorry because we could have brought home a good result, and the team deserved it for the excellent work done on the bike. Fortunately, Sunday, we will be in Assen, and it's a great opportunity to make up for it.”
