P2 on the grid for Fantic Racing Moto2’s Canet in Australia

Aron Canet and the Fantic Racing Moto2 team continue their remarkable run of form, securing yet another front-row start at the Australian GP, round 17 of an exciting season.

Right from the get-go, Aron Canet found the right feeling at the Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit, a track he clearly enjoys and where he achieved his first podium. The Spaniard ended Friday in second place and retained that position in the combined standings after both practice sessions. Wet conditions in Saturday’s Practice 2 led to slower lap times, leaving the Practice 1 results unchanged.

In the all-important qualifying session, Aron Canet posted a series of fast laps, even breaking the previous lap record to secure a strong second place. At Phillip Island, the Fantic Racing Moto2 star will start from the front row for the seventh time in the last eight races, highlighting his excellent form.

For Xavi Cardelus, it was a more challenging day. A hard crash during Practice 2 affected his qualifying performance, and he will start the race from 26th on the grid.

The excitement of the Moto2 World Championship resumes on Sunday with the race set to begin at 12:15 PM local time (3:15 AM CET).

At the Australian GP, the Main Sponsor of the Fantic Racing Moto2 Team is Mespic. Aron Canet: "I’m happy to start from the front row. A small mistake at turn 3 ruined my last lap, without that I could have been on pole. I was getting better lap after lap. In any case, the race is tomorrow and weather conditions are uncertain, so we will have to manage to keep up the pace until the last lap. Other riders have also shown that they can be fast but I am confident in our performance."

Roberto Locatelli, Fantic Racing Moto2 Team Manager: "It was a great qualifying session, we start again from the front row. Congratulations to the pole sitter but without Aron's small mistake in the last lap, we could have been on pole. The important thing is to secure a front-row start. With his potential, we know that Aron can be the fastest rider even here in Australia. Xavi fell this morning and that does not help to find the right confidence with the bike. In tomorrow's race, he will have to work to be able to fight with the riders ahead of him, but we know that he has the potential to do so."
