Roberto Garcìa to replace Xavi Cardelus at the German GP

18-year-old Roberto Garcìa, the current leader of the JuniorGP championship, will make his Moto2 World Championship debut with Fantic Racing at the Sachsenring. He will stand in for Xavi Cardelus who won’t be able to take part in the German GP after his fall in Practice 2 at the TT Circuit Assen.

Following further medical checks, Xavi Cardelus didn’t undergo surgery on his right foot but will sit out the German GP in order to focus on his recovery.

In his absence, Fantic Racing can count on Roberto Garcìa who is currently leading the JuniorGP standings for Fantic Cardoso Racing. Just recently turned 18 years old, on the 31st of May, the Spaniard will be the youngest rider on the grid next weekend. Roberto is coming off a dominant performance at the latest JuniorGP round in Portugal, where he won both races starting from pole position in the Moto2 category. His growth is also due to the great work of José Luis Cardoso and his team, with whom Fantic Racing collaborates, a perfect environment to grow young talents.

Roberto Locatelli, Fantic Racing Moto2 Team Manager:
“We are very sorry that Xavi Cardelus has to sit out the German GP. We talk to each other every day. We want him to recover well and come back to his 100%. As a former racer, I know how important it is to be in top form to be able to give your best. Thanks to our partnership with Cardoso Racing, which is like a junior team for us, we are happy to welcome Roberto Garcìa into our garage for the German GP. When we got the news of Xavi's withdrawal, Roberto immediately made himself available. We will approach the race weekend in the same way as usual, with the same method and goal. We will also work to make sure it will be a positive experience for Roberto, who is currently leading the JuniorGP Moto2 standings, a series that is a stepping stone to the world championship.”

Roberto Garcìa:
“I am very happy and excited to get the opportunity to debut in the Moto2 World Championship. First of all, I wish Xavi all the best for his recovery. I would also like to thank Fantic for the support in these two years of JuniorGP, which have been very important for me, and now for this opportunity to debut in the world championship. I feel amazing, we are working very well in JuniorGP and showing a great performance. Now we have to enjoy this weekend and work hard to make it as special as possible.”
