Moto2 Thai GP: Casadei in progression, Vietti slips

Moto2 Thai GP: Casadei in progression, a contact ruins Vietti's race

Buriram, 29 October 2023

With today's race, the seventeenth round of the Moto2 World Championship ended.

For the Fantic Racing Team, the race started very well, with Vietti recovering positions thanks to a quick and decisive start. He was one of the fastest on the track, and with a series of overtaking, he moved up to sixth position close to the leaders; the podium seemed within his reach.

But a violent contact with another rider, who made a mistake on a turn, completely displaces him. In the next straight, Vietti came out with less acceleration, allowing the riders following him to catch up. Forced to widen his trajectory, he passed on a dirty line, lost grip, and slipped.

Mattia Casadei managed his race, trying to improve his feeling with the Moto2 bike, maintaining a constant rhythm throughout the race, finishing in the twenty-first position at 55 seconds. Another weekend of improvement for the MotoE World Champion.

The MotoGP will stop for a week before starting again in Malaysia at the Sepang International Circuit.

Celestino Vietti: "It's a shame because I had made a good start. After the contact, I tried to stay focused, but I made a small mistake and crashed.
However, we come out of this weekend with our heads held high, showing that we are fast and competitive".

Mattia Casadei: "We are continuing to improve race after race. The sensations are positive; I am adapting to a different riding style, and we see the fruits of our labor.
I thank the team that continues to give 100%. Now we will think about Malaysia".
