A fast crash on Practice Friday in Jerez followed by surgery in Barcelona the day after, two weeks of intense rehabilitation, the medical check in Le Mans on Thursday, an extraordinary Pole Position and the podium battle until the very last lap. Aron Canet's French GP was the weekend of a true warrior, fighting through the pain in front of almost 300.000 enthusiastic MotoGP fans.
The Fantic Racing Moto2 rider found himself down in P11 after the first few corners. From there, he started his charge through the field, moving up as far as second place. The Spaniard was fighting for the podium positions all race long, eventually dropping to sixth place in the last-lap tussle.
Despite missing out on a podium spot, Aron gave an example of resilience and willpower, having to manage the increasing pain lap after lap. The next two weeks will allow him to prepare in the best possible way for the GP of Catalunya, scheduled from 24 to 26 May at Montmelò.
Xavi Cardelus rode a consistent race, making up some ground compared to his grid position, eventually finishing in P21.
Aron Canet:
“It was a complicated weekend but we showed great speed. It is a pity it didn’t translate in the final race result, since we were fighting for the podium places until the last lap. In the opening lap, I lost some positions as I tried to avoid a contact in turn 4 but I managed to recover them during the first laps. Now we focus on the next race in Barcelona.”
Xavi Cardelus:
“I’m happy with today’s race, I think it is the best of the year so far. We found the right feeling and we figured out what aspects to work on. We can’t change them overnight but we are working well. Thanks to my team, I am ready for Barcelona.”
